Part way through our Annual Dinner at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel we were treated to a breath-taking sunset over the lake and it seemed to set the seal on another special event in our Choir calendar.

The Dinner is the occasion when we can enjoy our choir life without the pressure of Rehearsal or the Stage getting in the way and there was a lot of good conversation.

Trevor, our chairman, hosted the evening and it was a pleasure to have the company of our vice- Presidents with us again.  There was, however, one painful absence from the number on the top table and we all truly missed the quiet wit and wisdom of Ellis our President who, thankfully, is slowly recovering from a period of ill health.

Both Trevor and Rhonwen our Director of Music  thanked the choristers for their dedication through the year and encouraged us into the work still to be done preparing for the Albert Hall in October and meeting the challenge of the National Eisteddfod at Meifod next year.

The particularly important person on the top-table this year was Linda, our Accompanist, whose forty years of self-less devoted service to the Choir we were honouring.  She was presented, to a standing ovation, with a silver salver in celebration of the remarkable part she has played in the story of our Choir. Another faithful chorister whose work we appreciated was Howard, who also has held office for over thirty years as our Concert secretary.   In a pleasant gesture, this year all the officers of the choir were also presented with tokens of appreciation.

We ended the evening with a really good singing session which, unusually, enjoyed the benefit of a good piano.   It was as near to a practice, without being a practice, that you could get.

There was, however,  a sad note in the chord of our being together this year for we are missing very much the smile and humour of Hywel among us.     Our grateful thanks go to everyone who contributed to the success of the evening, not least the management and staff of the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel.
